Key personnel behind Nier: Automata have teased the announcement of a new game.
Square Enix producer Yosuke Saito and Nier series game director Yoko Taro appeared on a V Jump / Famitsu live broadcast (translated by Fire Sanctury), on which the producer reportedly asked: “So, what’s your new game all about?”
Taro replied: “Uh, it’s not really for me to say,” before Saito added, “well, I think you can talk a little about it the next time we do this.”
Tokyo Game Show is set to run between September 12 and 15.
Taro’s last project, 2017’s Nier: Automata, was developed in partnership with PlatinumGames. Saito acted as producer for the game on the Square Enix side.
Combined NieR: Automata shipments and digital sales have exceeded four million units, according to publisher Square Enix.
The new milestone means 500,000 copies have been shipped or bought digitally since December 2018, when the company announced the game had moved 3.5 million units.
PlatinumGames studio head Atsushi Inaba recently discussed the company’s collaboration with Square Enix on the project as part of a wide-ranging Platinum Games interview with VGC.
